LIBRARY FACILITIES

Chitwan Medical College, library is more than library comprising of books (text and reference), it contains journals, CD ROMs and e-Library related to the medicine and related fields and newspapers as well which are properly catalogued based on Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system. The library committee, librarian and all the library staff are devoted for proper functioning and management of the library.

The library present is at 2 different locations- one at the college and second at the hospital [Location]. The College Library is located in the 1st floor beside class room block while hospital library is at fifth floor. The library has well-lit study space, comfortable seating arrangement and drinking water/toilet facilities for the students/readers (accommodating capacity: 600 readers) all of which contribute to excellent studying environment. Both the complexes have AC facilities.

The college library is open from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM and the hospital library is open from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The library also offers 4 mbps internet facilities and had installed 42 Computers (College 22 and Hospital 20) for e-library, also had printers, Scanner and photocopy services to its readers. It also has HINARI facility, so the students can download the desired HINARI-listed journals for recent medical knowledge and research purpose.

PROCESS OF OBTAINING LIBRARY MEMBERSHIP

All the faculties, students and staffs of this institute are eligible to become library member. The faculty and administrative staffs should be recommended and approved by the principal. In case of the students, they should first be recommended by senior administrative officer and then approved by the principal. Then after, the students are enrolled into the library system and their library cards are issued (upon receiving two photographs) after which they can use the privilege of borrowing of books.

The details of the privileges and conditions of book loan and the decorum to be followed in the library can be availed at the library facility.

HOSTEL FACILITIES

CMC provides well-furnished accommodation to the students in the student-hostels. There is 4 separate 3 winged four stories hostel, 2 for each boys and girls hostel with living capacity of 960 students 9480 boys and 480 girls).  The availability has to be checked during the time of admission and application form has to be submitted. A single room has to be shared by 2 persons of the same sex.

Facilities:

  1. Separate canteen in each complex
  2. Water supply, Drinking and sanitary: Very well –equipped and highly maintained
  3. Recreation Facilities; One central hall with A-V facilities
  4. Sports facilities:
    1. an excellent facility for indoor/outdoor games near the hostel within the college premises, which the students can use for physical and mental fitness
    2. Cricket Field, Soccer Field, Basketball Court, Volleyball Court, badminton Court, Multiple Table-Tennis Boards, In-door Game Facilities
  5. Wifi/Internet facility: Free

Hostel fees:

An amount of NRs. 3000/month is charged as accommodation fee. There will be a 10% increment in the charges annually.

Timings:

 

There is a hostel management committee that looks after the hostel issues. The students should read the rules and regulations available at the hostel administration office carefully.

CANTEEN FACILITIES

There are canteen facilities available at each block of the hostel separately, in the college premises and at the hospital that cater to a wide preference of the students, faculties and administrative staffs. The food menus are reasonably priced (the food prices being listed in an observable manner) and diverse.

The canteen always welcomes complaints/feedback regarding its service delivery and will try to rectify them.

 

Canteen fees for the hostel students:

An amount of 6000 Rs per month is charged as fee for canteen services. There will be a 10% increase in these charges every year.

IT SERVICES

The IT department of CMC provides different services fulfilling the need of the students in this era of information and technology. It serves for academic efficiency, access to internet and provides solutions to the technological issues that arise.

There are hundreds of computers and other technological assets (such as multimedia projector, audio aid etc.) in different departments of the college and the hospital, that are duly managed by the IT department. The entire area of college and hospital is a high speed internet wifi zone, the access of which is provided after entry into the institutional system (Restriction to access applies to certain areas in the hospital and college)

Institutional email address (Domain name: cmc.edu.np) is provided to all the students, faculties and administrative staffs upon verification. The department also provides solutions to the technological issues that come up during academic activities and also helps the students in case they have any IT related issues.

There is also a provision of e-library; the central library at the college and hospital library can be accessed remotely through online connection.

 

PROCEDURE FOR GETTING INTERNET ACCESS (FOR THE STUDENTS)

After admission of the students, the verified student list will be sent to the IT Department. The students are requested to provide the MAC address of their device (1 device/student) for internet connectivity, after which, the student receives the username and password for the internet access.

TRANSPORT FACILITIES

There is a shuttle college bus service for the transfer of students and staffs between the medical college and hospital (which are 8 km apart) that takes approximately 20 minutes. There is a fixed time schedule for the bus service except for the Saturdays, starting from both the hospital and the college premises which can be availed at the college/hospital administration.

MEDICAL BENEFIT

All the students of CMC are entitled to a discount of 75% in all medical and surgical treatment and medications. The beneficiaries of the students (father and mother only) are provided 50% discount in the aforementioned services.

In case of faculties, what is the provision?

Procedure for obtaining medical benefit

The eligible student needs to fill a medical beneficiary form and verify the same with the college administration. The student can avail of the medical benefit following enrollment of the student into the system.

EXTRA-CURRICULARS

There are several activities in the college and the hospital that take place outside regular academic activities. CMC believes that such activities should be integral part of student learning because they take care of student’s different developmental needs such as their skills (communication, co-operation and leadership skills), creativity and sense of moral values and attitudes. Accordingly, students (as well as faculties) are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities, and CMC tries its best to support such events (financial constraints do exist!).

Regular activities at CMC

  • Sports week (A variety of indoor/outdoor games, cultural events)
  • Annual day celebration on day of Saraswati Puja (according to Nepalese calendar)
  • Welcome program to the incoming batch
  • Farewell program to the outgoing batch

 

CMC also facilitates participation of the students in different country-wide sports competition, cultural events etc.
