BDS

This program, which started in CMC in August 2011, is a five and a half-year (5½ year) course, with four and a half years of study followed by a year of compulsory internship, which prepares students for patient-oriented dental practice and emphasizes prevention and early detection of dental disease.

The School of Dental Sciences (SODS) at CMC has capable and highly professional faculties. There are 9 different departments that are well equipped and have more than 100 fully functional dental chairs in totality.

GOALS OF THE PROGRAM

The goal of the BDS curriculum is to produce a caring, knowledgeable, competent and skillful dentist who can

  • accept professional responsibility for the effective and safe care of patient
  • appreciate the need for continuing professional development
  • adapt to and utilize advances in relevant knowledge and techniques
  • understand the role of patients in decision making

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  1. Candidate should have completed 10+2 or intermediate of science or equivalent course with English, Biology, Physics and Chemistry as major subjects securing at least 50 per cent marks in each subject and in aggregate from a recognized college.
  2. Candidate (both Nepalese and foreign nationals) must have passed the entrance exam set by Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the same year candidate is seeking admission in.

CANDIDATE SELECTION PROCESS

Eligible candidates should appear for the entrance exam conducted by IOM, Exam section and the merit list will be published based on the marks secured in the entrance examination. The candidate selection and admission will then be done following the guidelines set by IOM (on merit basis and post-counseling sessions held by IOM).

For international students

  • International students should have an eligibility certificate from the concerned authority of their country, a valid student visa (if visa is required to stay in Nepal) and eligibility certificate issued by IoM or Ministry of Education of Nepal.
  • To get the admission in MBBS programme, along with all other academic documents and proof of nationality, Indian candidate should also submit eligibility certificate issued from Medical Council of India (MCI), New Delhi, India before admission.

 

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

After fulfilling the aforementioned criteria, students have to visit CMC College along with the guardians and have to present the original copies of all the academic certificates. Thereafter, students have to fill up necessary documents and agreement papers as per the rules and requirements of CMC.

 

MEDICAL FITNESS

Successful candidates will have to undergo medical test by a Medical Board constituted by the College and must be declared fit for final admission.

INTERNSHIP

The internship will commence after the students pass the final board examination held after 4½ year of course conducted by IOM/TU and acquire the provisional registration number from Nepal Medical Council.

Internship Log Book is to be maintained for each clinical posting and has to be duly signed by the respective faculties and Heads of the Departments. Subsequent to this, the Interns will be provided an Internship Completion Certificate issued by CMC.

After completion of a minimum of 6 months of Internship, the students are eligible to appear for NMC License Examination.  Subsequent to passing NMC License Examination and completion of Internship, the Interns are eligible for Temporary Registration Number from Nepal Medical Council.

SCHOLARSHIP

There are limited numbers of scholarship seats available every year for this program for the deserving students (10% of the total approved seats for the academic year). The candidates, who study under scholarship scheme, are finalized during counseling sessions held by IOM.
