Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics
Departments
Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics is the branch of dentistry that addresses the cause, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of defects of teeth and dental pulp. It takes care of the treatment and restoration of caries, malformed, discolored, non-esthetic, and fractured teeth.
The primary objective of operative dentistry is to restore and maintain the natural dentition in an optimal state of health, form, function, and esthetics and its harmonious relationships with the intraoral tissues while preserving the pulpal health.
Conservative Dentistry is the branch of Dentistry which is concerned with the conservation of teeth and includes various kinds of direct and indirect restorations of teeth. It includes the techniques and procedures to restore the teeth to full function & appearance in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
Restorative procedures such as Glass Ionomer restorations, Dental Amalgam restorations and Composite resin restorations are carried out by the department.
The indications for operative procedures generally fall into three primary treatment needs:
Endodontics is the branch of clinical dentistry associated with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the pathology of the dental pulp and their sequelae.
Endodontics deals with prevention and treatment of pulp and periapical diseases and dental pain management. Endodontics manages the causes, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases and injuries of the dental pulp and peri-radicular tissues, usually by removal of the nerve and affected tissues of the pulp cavity and its replacement with suitable filling material known as root canal treatment.
During root canal treatment, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed and after careful cleaning and disinfection, it is filled and sealed with a rubber-like material called “gutta-percha.”
Advanced endodontic treatment procedures like Apexification, Apexogenesis, Complicated RCTs, Hemisection, Radisection, Apicectomy Splinting, and Endodontic surgery are also handled by this department.
The department also deals with Aesthetic dentistry which includes various esthetic treatments like Diastema closure, Laminates, Veneers, Crowns, Smile design, Tooth whitening (bleaching) and Tooth coloured restorations.
